Frequently Asked Questions:
My band totally fucking rocks...
A. ... can I send you a demo?
B. ... why haven't you gotten back to me about our demo?
C. ... why don't you accept demos?
D. ... you suck.
A. We'd rather you not.
B. See A.
C. We really do appreciate the effort and are honored that you would want to work with us, but we're such a small label that it makes no sense for us to work with a band who we do not know on a personal level. That being said, we will most likely never release a record, or "sign" a band based on demo alone. To be honest, you should talk a friend of yours to release your records for you, or just do it yourself. You don't need a business degree or a trust-fund to be in the record label business. Check out Indie Centre, they have enough knowledge and experience to walk you step-by-step through the whole record label thing. If it wasn't for them we would not be where we are today.
D. Yes, we sure do!
How can I book a Slowdance band for my rock show, backyard BBQ or Bar Mitzah?
To book THE VELVET TEEN, contact Kris K at Aero Booking.
To book KISSING TIGERS, contact Dave McKay.
To book RESCUE, contact the band.
To book THE ROOTS OF ORCHIS, contact Justin Pinkerton.
To book THE NEW TRUST, contact the band.
To book OMA YANG, contact Dong Ping-Wong.
To book THE INTIMA, contact the band.
I write for a magazine/online zine or some other form of media. Hook a brother up with an ad and some free CDs!
Gladly, all we ask is that we see a copy of your publication first. If you write for an online publication, be warned that we are VERY picky when it comes to online zines. Send us a link and we'll get back to you if we like it. Please don't get all pissy if we don't add you to our promo list, we have WAY too many zines, print and online, that we service and we just can't afford to add a whole lot more.
My college radio show is fucking great, why don't I get your records.
We have no fucking idea why, and stop swearing. For questions of this nature, you should talk to the handsome Justin at AAM. He handles radio promotion for us and you can reach him right here..
Are you hiring or looking for interns?
I wish we were hiring, but nope. Interns we could always use. You need to be in the Portland area, willing to work for free and like pugs. Email us is you are interested.
I am the coolest kid in the Freshman Dorm, can I join your Street Team?
No, we don't really have a street team, but we might soon. If you have a show in mind you are interested in helping with, please let us know.
Why doesn't my local hipster record store carry your records?
I don't know, have they talked to Mordam? As of July 2004, Mordam distributes our fine records to stores all over the globe. Drop us a line and we will make sure they stock our wonderful releases.
What are your thoughts on downloading?
We're fine with it, but please be respectful. No one here is making much, if any, of a living off this music business thing and excessive downloading/burning isn't helping in that. We know you're probably just as poor as us, so if you can't afford the CD, please go support our bands when they tour.
Who runs this label?
Soon-Yi and Ezra. Interns too. Soon-Yi does all the work.
I run a European straight-edge hardcore label, want to trade some records?
No. (By the way, this is a very common question we get. I have no idea what I would do with a bunch of hardcore records from overseas. Maybe listen to them? Um, no.)
I work for a uber-congolmerate major label and can I get a free Velvet Teen CD?
Probably not. I wouldn't dare email you and ask for free Nickelback CD, now would I?
Can you help my band get a show in Portland?
Maybe, email us and we'll point you in the right direction. We can't book it per se, but we'll give you some contacts on who to email and such.
Whose pug is that?
Mine. Not yours. Check out Soon-Yi's Dogster page!
What happened to Sterling Silver?
They broke up. One bad tour + inner-band relationships gone sour = broken up band.
If you're interested in that whole "ex-members" thing, then feel free to check out the new project from Demetrius and Marc, TheDropScience. You can also catch Brent on tour with Pinback and Susanna singing on the new Blackheart Procession record.
Oh my god, I found a broken link or some other webpage-related mistake, who do I talk to about this???
Calmly email us and we'll take care of it all. Everything's going to be ok.
